The stars of Dune: Part Three — including Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Javier Bardem — surprised fans at an LA-area theater on Monday, March 16 to launch the new trailer.

But Timothée Chalamet, the lead of the highly anticipated final film in the trilogy, wasn’t there. And Rob Shuter has reported that he wasn’t even invited, thanks to his high-profile romance with Kylie Jenner and a slew of think pieces about how backlash over the Marty Supreme actor’s behavior and comments may have cost him the Academy Award for Best Actor on March 15.

“He’s become a distraction,” one insider told Shuter for his Naughty But Nice Substack on Wednesday, March 18. “Every question would have been about the Oscar loss and Kylie — not the movie.”

“This was about protecting the movie,” a source agreed.

Chalamet did appear in a brief, praise-filled, pre-recorded message to introduce director Denis Villeneuve, Shuter reported.

“The cast was relieved,” the source added. “This way the spotlight stayed on the film.”

Dune: Part Three is set to premiere on December 18.
