Severe winds knock out power to thousands across Kansas City metro

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Severe winds knocked down power lines and trees Wednesday afternoon, leaving thousands of people without power across the Kansas City metro area.

As of Wednesday night, Evergy’s outage map showed more than 1,200 customers without electricity, including residents in Lake Winnebago, Pleasant Hill, Strasburg, and Holden.

According to the National Weather Service, multiple Missouri communities reported power outages, broken tree limbs, and downed wires, including Baldwin City, Prescott, Pleasanton, Clinton, Kingsville, and Strasburg.

Damage in Baldwin City was consistent with wind gusts between 60 and 70 mph. Holden documented wind gusts up to 59 mph during the afternoon storms.

Showers and storms will continue to move through the area overnight and into Thursday morning.
