Saygid Izagakhmaev vs. Abubakar Vagaev UFC Fight Night 282 preview
Izagakhmaev (22-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) hunts for his first win in the UFC after losing his debut by split decision to Nicolas Dalby in November. Prior to his arrival in the UFC, Izagakhmaev was on a five-fight winning streak with fights in Eagle FC and ONE Championship.
Vagaev (24-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a former ACA welterweight champion making his UFC debut. He’s currently on a three-fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming against UFC veterans Michel Prazeres and Albert Tumenov.

Despite having fights like Ismail Bonfim and Axel Sola stuck on the prelims, the UFC matchmakers elected to open the main card in Abu Dhabi with a welterweight fight between Abubakar Vagaev and Saygid Izagakhmaev that could be a bit of a grind.
I’m glad that the UFC, for whatever reason, is finally starting to consider more Russians from the ACA circuit, but Vagaev is not the usual archetype of fighter that the promotion signs.
Don’t get me wrong: Vagaev is an accoladed regional champ who can really put his strikes together when corralling his foes along the fence, but the former ACA welterweight champ is also not beyond using his superior strength and wrestling to grind things out along the fence.
And though I believe that Izagakhmaev has a lot more to offer than the cage grinding he displayed opposite Nicolas Dalby, I think that Vagaev may end up funnelling them into a similar fight.
The pick is Vagaev via a grinding decision.
