Imani Clement

BOSTON —

Police are investigating after a fight ended with the fatal stabbing of a man at South Station in Boston, police announced in a press conference.

The stabbing happened just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the station, Boston police said.

According to Superintendent and Chief of the Bureau of Investigative Services, Paul McLaughlin, the victim and male suspect were engaged in a fight inside the MBTA’s Red Line station at South Station.

The fight happened on an escalator that was leaving South Station, McLaughlin said.

The victim suffered at least one stab wound and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Red Line trains initially were bypassing South Station as a result of a stabbing, but service to the station has since resumed.

Police have asked any witnesses to the stabbing to come forward or submit a tip to 617-431-0125.

No suspects are in custody. An investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.
