Minnesota’s Weather Authority issues Alert for possible severe afternoon thunderstorms

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued an Alert due to a possibility for severe afternoon thunderstorms.

Location

The storm is expected to move from west to east across central Minnesota in the afternoon before western Wisconsin should see some activity in the evening hours.

Timing

A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop to the west of the Twin Cities around midday. These storms will intensify and move into the west metro area after 3 p.m.

Storms will move through the metro during the afternoon and evening drive and could overlap with after-school activities, practices, and other outdoor events.

Threats

Not everyone will see severe weather, but any stronger storm could bring gusty winds up to 60 MPH, hail, heavy rain, frequent lightning and isolated tornados.

A strong or severe storm or two is possible, so if you have Wednesday afternoon or evening plans, keep the forecast close.
