I-80 crash in Placer County involved 2 big rigs, 10 vehicles

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. —

Westbound traffic is moving again in one lane on Interstate 80 in Placer County after a crash involving two big rigs and 10 vehicles on Monday afternoon, Caltrans said.

The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. at westbound I-80 at Drum Forebay Road, the California Highway Patrol said. There were at least two people with major injuries and multiple others with minor injuries.

CHP said there was also a significant diesel leak because of the crash. Westbound traffic was turned around at Nyack into the evening.

As of 8 p.m., one lane was open for traffic, according to Caltrans. The other lane remained closed for hazmat work and vehicle recovery.

Preliminary reports indicate that a big rig during the crash went off the road and over an embankment.

The cause of the crash is not known, and the ages and genders of those injured are not known.
