Here’s When ‘Masters of the Universe’ Is Streaming on Prime Video

Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe will be streaming on Prime Video this Wednesday, July 22.

That reps a 47-day theatrical-to-streaming window.

The Travis Knight-directed feature, based on the popular 1980s toy property and syndicated animated TV series, was in development for 18 years with Escape Artists, and didn’t light the box office on fire with a $170M production cost, $29.4M domestic opening, $64.6M domestic final and $113.3M global take off a B CinemaScore and a critical score of 67% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. This despite the production putting its best foot forward and to significantly one-up the previous feature take of the popular Mattel toy which was released in 1987 and starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

Masters of the Universe stars Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue star Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam. He’s been separated from his cosmic kingdom Eternia for 15 years. But the Sword of Power leads him back where there’s unfinished business with the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe. 

The screenplay was by Chris Butler and Aaron Nee & Adam Nee and Dave Callaham off a story by Aaron Nee & Adam Nee and Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. Producers are Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and DeVon Franklin.
