Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev continued to redefine consistency at ATP 500 level on Thursday, when they each carved out a piece of history and moved beyond some of the Tour’s most established names.

Rublev powered past Lorenzo Sonego at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, while Zverev advanced against Gabriel Diallo at the BMW Open by Bitpanda in Munich. With their respective victories, both men reached their 33rd ATP 500 quarter-final, breaking a tie with Marin Cilic for the most appearances at that stage since the series was introduced in 2009.

Most ATP 500 Quarter-Finals (since 2009)

While overtaking Cilic, they also move further clear of a group that includes 22-time major champion Rafael Nadal and former World No. 3s David Ferrer and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Three of Rublev’s 33 ATP 500 quarter-finals have come in 2026, following back-to-back semi-final runs in Doha and Dubai before his latest push in Barcelona. Zverev, meanwhile, is into his first ATP 500 quarter-final of the season, but arrives in Munich with formidable momentum.

The No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Zverev reached three consecutive ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo, where he fell each time to Jannik Sinner. The German is the defending champion in Munich and is seeking his fourth title at the event.

Zverev will next meet Francisco Cerundolo in the last eight. Although the Argentine has claimed all three of their previous clay-court matches, Zverev holds a 4-3 lead in their overall Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

Rublev, who also reached the Barcelona quarter-finals in 2021, takes on Tomas Machac. With Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing due to injury on Wednesday, Rublev now stands as the only seeded player remaining in the top half of the draw.
